When I bought Williams High Speed pinball machine I now that the playfield had big areas with wear, paint loose, and that it would be hard to paint touch-up this big areas even if I earlier had done a major paint touch-up on Williams Firepower 1980. If I should start a paint job on this playfield I think it would be overwhelming. There are spots on the playfield where the paint has come loose down to the bare wood, for example in front of the center targets and on big areas around inserts in the middle of the playfield. The center targets plastic was broken and need to be replaced.
Some pictures of wear on the playfield.
Some weeks after I bought the Williams High Speed pinball machine I started to shop the playfield partially. Just good enough to make it shine a little better and make more enjoy during play. The picture show a black tape on the posts to protect the plastic color from wear.
Here we can see how much dirt and dust that is collected underneath the bottom arch.
Working with removing all playfield parts from the playfield.
All wires is marked with labels to know where they was soldered, this will make it easier when wires will be soldered on the replacement playfield again.
During the progress with dismounting of the wire and units underneath the playfield I lift it on a wooden board. This will allow me to place it on the replacement playfield in the same order.
All parts from the units is placed in plastic cups which is marked with the units name. Then all parts is cleaned in the ultrasonic washer.
Now is the playfield stripped from parts and ready to be exchanged for another playfield that has less wear.
After travel by train and subway with the playfield I'm now in Stockholm and ready for the exchange. It is hard to not lay a last hand to the playfield despite that I'm in a hotel room and not at home. I will change the playfield with a member of the Swedish pinball Society who has a playfield in better condition then mine. Late on the evening he showed up and we got a good time of conversation about pinball in general in the hotel bar. Thanks to Danne!
An overview of the playfield I got. There is a lot of dried glue residuals on the playfield from the original mylar. Some playfield wear on smaller areas that I can manage to do paint touch-ups to achieve a nice playfield.
Lower part of the playfield.
There are two areas approx. 10 mm in diameter outside the slingshots, this wear is from ball drop from the Hide out ramps.
Middle part of the playfield has some minor wear around the inserts but apart from this it is in good shape. The playfield I had before the exchange had big areas with wear in front of the center targets.
Upper part of the playfield.
There are spots with wear around the kick-out hole and on the right Freeway lane, but this spots will be possible to do paint touch-up.
