JK Kabinett till MAME - Arkad projekt Part IV!

INTERFACE I-PAC 2

JK Interface

To get the joystick and pushbuttons on the front panel to communicate with your computer is Ultimarcs I-PAC 2 board fully sovereign. I-PAC (Interface for Pc to Arcade Controls) is connected to the computer's USB port. No programming is required and the board has a base configuration for MAME which makes it more or less plug and play, making it easy to understand how the controls should be connected to the board. There are two sets of inputs on the board, one for each player, these inputs are as follow; ground, joysticks, 8 pushbuttons, start button, coin button.

JK Interface

I-PAC 2 (controller board) is screwed on the inside of the cabinet with four spacers for easy access.

JK Interface

I have chosen to retain the original terminal connector (sugar cube connector) located on the inside of the cabinet so there will be many cables in various colors to be spliced from this terminal connector to I-PAC 2 board. The reason is that it will be easy to remove the front panel from the cabinet as this connector can be easily disconnected if the need should arise.

CABLE AND CABLE

JK Interface

After all the cables are cut to proper length, they can be connected to the I-PAC 2 board input lugs.

JK Interface

The top cable on I-PAC 2 is ground which is common to all controls (micro switches) on the front panel. Note that the player 1 has its input lugs to the left on the board, and player 2 has its input lugs to the right of the board.

JK Interface

Now are all the controls connected to the I-PAC 2 board. It remains only to tie together all the cables and attach them to the cabinet.

JK Interface

To keep track of the color of cables from the controls and the color of new cables which connects to the I-PAC 2 board I had to make a cross-reference matrix.

JK Interface

Time for the first test run and all the controls work. What remains to be resolved is a pushbutton to fill in credit when you are in a game in MAME and an ESC key to exit a game, thereof the keyboard is still on the lid for the space where the coin box is stored.
