SEATROUT PREMIERE 2014!

Fly fishing in Holma 2014 - Seatrout

Three happy anglers (Fredrik, Martin and Thomas) arrived in Holma Tuesday, 1th of April at eight in the morning. The air temperature was around zero (+1 C). There was a light onshore wind, southwest 3-5 m/s, which is good since the sea trout will be less timid and food drives in into the bay, these conditions is great for fly fishing.

Now we are peckish for fly fishing after we have dressed on all our gear, all gear are on spot and fly rod is rig with a streamer of correct color and size, now only remains to wade out into Lerviken for first fly fishing session.

There was already some fly fishers in place when we arrived but luckily they went on to try a new fishing spot. Nice to have the whole Lerviken for ourselves and fish in peace and quiet without distractions from other fly fishermen. We were informed that their fishing had not resulted in a catch of sea trout during the morning. I take a "selfie" in the nice weather!

At the side of the "island" in the picture, it was probably a big sea trout that grabbed the fly because when I lift the fly rod, I lose all contact with the fish, the fly is away from the leader, three to four serious snap in the line indicates that it may have been a big sea trout. The reason for the dropped fly is probably that I have made a bad knot. Here we see how important it is to have their equipment in order for the chance at big fish.

In the sea outside of the "island" can big sea trout move towards shallower waters for foraging, the sea bottom consist here of mud, sand, stone and mussel beds, so-called "leopard bottom"

I fly fishing the area on the outside of the "island" without making contact with any sea trout. There are a few hours of fly fishing without a sign of life in the sea.

I will return to fly fishing in Lerviken and after a while it happens. I let the fly drop 10-15 seconds before I start to bring back the fly line and the retrieval is done with long pauses between each retrieval. Suddenly, a sea trout eat the fly and I was invited on a great fight, it feels that sea trout are larger than the ones I have caught earlier today (below 45 cm). It was a good fight before I manage to bring in front landing net and land the sea trout. The photo shows sea trout just after catch.

So here happy becomes you after a sea trout are landed on 58 cm, 1.6 kg. Which I think is my PB - Personal Best

Me and Thomas takes a short rest and gets opportunity to eat a small lunch, Martin continue fly fishing in Lerviken and tries to fool some sea trout to eat the fly.

After lunch the wind begins to decrease and in the afternoon there was virtually no wind, the temperature went up to +6 C at midday, the fly fishing is sluggish with a few stray snatch, four sea trout under 45 cm are put back. Strangely enough, all three of us manage to catch Dab, it sometimes happens that you get Dab on wet fly when fishing close to bottom.

Evening fishing

The feeling when you fighting with a bigger Seatrout

After six o'clock in the afternoon a light breeze begins to pull in over Lerviken which result in a onshore wind again and the result is that I get another chance to fight with a larger sea trout.

It is always exciting when a bigger fish eats the fly and you set the hook firmly into a fish's mouth with the right timing, strike, now you feel how endorphins flowing in body. The experience I get is me and sea trout, nothing are allowed to go wrong now, right tension on the fly line and depending on sea trout strenght how fast do I dare take home fly line? For how long time should sea trout be played with risk of exhaustion or that sea trout will succeed to release from the hook? Everything is an assessment of the glorious experience between me and the sea trout!

Here are today's luckiest angler with two fine sea trout at Sea trout premiere in 2014.

It was a nice sea trout on 58 cm, 1.6 Kg i managed to catch during the day.

Sea trout was caught on a streamer which can be seen in the picture.

I had flow on today's Sea trout premiere with two approved sea trout, 58 cm, 1.6 Kg och 51 cm, 1.1 Kg. All three of us got sea trout today, but fishing colleagues had unfortunately no one above the minimum dimension of 45 cm.
